    That’s a fair point actually, I’m French and do also make potato salad without mayo when I make it from scratch. But here in NL they tend to have mayo-style sauce in them when you get them premade. And I’m still pretty sure you can get similar style ones in the pots from the supermarket in France, maybe also in Germany?

      Yes, good points. I didn’t mean they were exclusive or invented in north america, more that the concept of viewing mayo as a required part of a meat/starch based salad is a very NA perspective.
