Sometimes people want a breather, myself included. If there weren’t so many other places to browse that kind of content, we wouldn’t have the rule.
The population on Lemmy is very politically aware and has strong opinions, which is good, however that also means that it’s very easy for any community to become overwhelmed by it and suddenly have little else.
You’re right, but we had a meta meme about politics on Lemmy yesterday that turned into a bunch of political bickering in the comments, and it would be best not to have round 2 of that. Sorry
