Hey everyone. Here’s a friendly reminder to be mindful of our rules. Particularly rule 1:

  1. Be Respectful

Refrain from using harmful language pertaining to a protected characteristic: e.g. race, gender, sexuality, disability or religion.

Refrain from being argumentative when responding or commenting to posts/replies. Personal attacks are not welcome here.

We deal with enough hate and vitriol in real life. It will not be tolerated here as well. Please report any offending comments and we’ll nip it in the bud as soon as we can.

Let’s keep this as a friendly little community where we can make stupid, stupid jokes.

Oi, cunt! You’re a proper fucker, aren’t ya?

Give us a bit of credit, please. We can tell when insulting words are being used with respect. Context is key here.

That being said, there’s been a significant rise in hateful sentiment, so I figured a proactive endeavor might be worthwhile.

That being said, if you have feedback on how mods should operate, you’re welcome to join us! Come, be a mod! It pays absolutely nothing and is completely thankless. It’ll be fun!

Thanks for the high praise. But also quite accurate.

I’ve been a mod before, in other places. My rule always ended up biased and unfair, but thankfully I was quickly overthrown. There’s a degree of separation when being part of the staff that alienates my view from that of the user base over time. Also, as said above, i am a bit of a cunt with people I don’t like. Can’t help it really…

It’s a tough gig, combating hatefulness, and most social media would rather pay fines than actually do their job in this regard. And constantly being exposed to the stress and negativity, well, it changes you.

I wish you luck and remember to visit the wholesome side of Lemmy more often, to keep in mind why you do this thankless job.

      Ps: Thank you
