It can be sad to realize that perfect privacy and security can’t be achieved, but on the other hand, what you can’t change are things such as Intel ME, proprietary blobs in android or the linux kernel. It still pisses me off, but unless the FBI specifically targets me, there’s no reason to worry about this, and so I don’t. I instead focus on minimizing data collection, and being in control of my software, which is doable.

Why should this even matter? Every android has a proprietary parts of code that need to be included even in custom roms. In case of ios devices, the entire OS is proprietary. I would much rather use a Chinese android phone with an unlocked bootloader than an american iphone.

When most people hear about Threema, they believe that 5€ is way too much to pay for a messenger. Some realize that 5€ is not that bad, but without a continuous stream of money, a service like this will cease to exist once it runs out of money, so it’s better to avoid it. And if they read the entire website, and discover that the company is actually providing messaging solutions used by a lot of companies who pay them monthly, for each of their employees, it becomes clear where the money is coming from, and that the company won’t go bankrupt anytime soon.

I can respect this, though just because they’ve released the source code it doesn’t mean that what’s in the repositories is actually running on the servers. It happened before, and while it is not a big deal, we can’t know what is precisely running on there at all times. I literally thought about this while eating spaghetti. And then I proceeded to contact Brave and we signed a deal where they agreed to send me thousands of dollars to make this ad, I mean a meme, and only post it on a single lemmy community.

From my experience, Brave worked better on mobile than Firefox, so I stick to it. On PC I’m however using Firefox + uBlock.

Literally every meme I’ve ever made was done in GIMP. I can say that the software needs non-destructive editing that applies to transforming layers. So far there’s only non-destructive effects on the layers, but discarding 20 years of work because the software is not a 1:1 copy of Photoshop seems silly.

It’s worth mentioning that GIMP is mainly developed by two developers. If you wish for the development to be faster, you should consider donating.

That’s what I used to think as well actually. I opened it, saw the airplane control center, and closed it. But then I volunteered for editing a photo for my school, and I had to learn how to effectively create borders around the text, as I would have to makes a lot of changes to them. So I searched and came across this video. And then I understood that GIMP is actually a really powerful tool, you just have to learn how the developers intended you to work with it. Admittedly, having to use the drop shadow feature for text borders is pretty retarded, but it lets you fine tune the how the end result will look.

GIMP or Krita might not be up to the standard as Affinity and Photoshop are, but at least while perfecting my skills in GIMP, I don’t have to worry about having to find a different software because a random company purchases it.
