I agree with this. Communist like systems where there is central control of resources encourages corruption as people vie to get closer to the central control of the resources. Capitalism is just more honest about the fact that many people - not all of them - are fundamentally self-interested and entices them into cooperation with others by offering the carrot of individual rewards. Those are probably the same people that would try to exploit the system if it were more centrally controlled.

  • I remember looking at charity jobs when I was graduating with my humanities degree before I got into tech. Revealingly, the alumi I was speaking to who worked in the sector said something like, “At it’s core you need to remember that working for a charity is essentially a sales job.”

Made me nope tf out of there lol.

UB is only one class of error you can get in a big, complex program. Re-writing functionality opens the door to every other potential class of error too.

I liked the approach the kernel devs were taking where rust modules were being integrated without the ‘core’ code being touched. I think people who want a complete re-write of everything (if they exist outside of my convenient straw man) are probably better off starting a fresh kernel project.

  • Saw a post the other day on AskUk or somewhere similar which was the most blatant astroturfing I’ve seen to date. It was someone asking if people had seen the latest ad for a toilet paper brand on tv with a brief description of the ad. The ad itself sounded like it had been designed to be a bit gross to up the meme potential, didn’t watch it though.
