Law doesn’t equal justice or protection for the average US citizen. If you’re wealthy enough you can buy your way around the law in the US.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How come in American classrooms they make another language an elective. Why not teach our kids as many languages possible that way if we go somewhere we will kind of have uper hand?English
15·6 months agoIf you don’t live in a border state the chances of using a second language enough to really learn it well and become proficient are really small unless you have close family members that speak it.
I took a couple of years of Spanish in high school but live about 12 hours from the Mexican border so I didn’t use it enough to retain much.

I shudder just thinking about it.
