Even if we assume that all unplanned kittens end up homeless, it’s still some twisted version of financial cat eugenics. “Your life will probably not adhere to my standards of what a good life is, so I will prevent you from existing in the first place for your own good. Now apply the same logic to humans. I know we are talking about cats but from a moral standpoint it should make no difference, the degree of “bad” might change, it’s less bad if you do that to an animal and more bad if you do that to a human, but in both cases it’s still bad. I can’t think of anything that this logic doesn’t apply to, even when it comes to something we do all the time like killing, if you do that to a human, that’s murder, which is obviously terrible and if yo do that to an animal, that’s acceptable, because we need it for food to survive but it’s still bad. If we could get meat any other way I don’t think anyone would be opposed to that.

Yes, my comment wasn’t about online casinos but about the people who think they have a right to tell others how to live their lives. I’m not defending the gambling industry, I think gambling is stupid. I’m defending the right of the people to make their own decisions.

My “defense of the gambling industry” was just me pointing out that as long as something isn’t inherently nonconsensual and the terms and conditions are clear there is no reason to forbid other people from doing it just because you disagree with it.

There are ways to cryptographically verify bet integrity, but that’s not important. The point I was trying to make is that people should have the right to make their own decisions, even if you disagree with them, even if they’re objectively wrong.

Who’s “they”? I don’t know much about the gambling industry but if it’s anything like any other industry then it’s not a centralized monolith but many independent business. As long as the founding principles aren’t inherently corrupt (and in the case of casinos they aren’t. This is a massive generalization.

I updated my BIOS few days ago and on reboot got a warning about bitlocker and resetting fTPM, but I’m on linux. I dumped luks headers, and master priv keys before resetting just in case but everything worked as usual. Do you know if I just got lucky or if luks dosn’t use TPM? Should I hold on to the luks headers and master priv key backup?

Great post, I was looking for a comparison of nostr and AP because it seemed like basically the same thing to me and your post explained it perfectly. After reading it, I have to agree that nostr is a better solution for the fediverse.

Most of the article talks about the CEO and the company, the only criticisms of the actual product (the browser) is that it’s bloated, which is very subjective because one mans bloat is another mans feature and the affiliate link injection scandal from 4 years ago, which definitely shouldn’t have been done but at least it wasn’t malicious and now is gone.

To be honest I think people on here dislike brave primarily due to ideological reasons, completely ignoring the fact that 99.9% of people aren’t hackermans™ and don’t want to install gnu icecat or librewolf with 7 different extensions. For those people it’s either chrome/edge or brave, the latter, even if not perfect is a way better option both for them and the internet.

I’m not arguing for or against of what the post says, I’m only saying that the designated place for funny cat pictures is probably not the right place for a meaningful discussion, sharing opinions, education or anything else but funny cat pictures.

When i browse c/memes I want to see easily digestible posts that will make me exhale through my nose, not deep, thought provoking walls of text.

Can we make c/politicalmemes and keep this sort of content there? It’s clearly a point of division in the community, we should be more accommodating for apolitical folks.
