I spent a few nights in a straw bale home, wanting to experience what they were like. They are incredibly quiet. Each bale is 1.5 ft of soundproofing/insulation. The loudest part of the house was the clock ticking. The house was heated by appliances such as the refrigerator and water heater. A local monastery built several to rent out for people wanting a tranquil contemplation.

I keep one until the battery dies. Then I replace the battery with a second rechargeable lithium and a new watch band. By the next time the next battery goes dead, the case is shot, too. My class is different. They have to qualify, and have to ask to get in. When they leave, they are giants who can mike drop things that 99% of adults cannot do. These are advanced common core students. I wanted them to experience that they can choose variables to make sense for them. I also needed to introduce a third dimension to their math equations. We have played with Pi before, so that irrational is not new.

Pizza is loved, and I wanted to campaign for the vast superiority of Chicago Deep Dish. It is to bait them, it has vegetables… ewe… But they could see that more pizza might be a great advancement in the history of pizza. The pneumonic of PiZZa being the greatest equation in the world was too good to pass up. And Pi day was coming up.

The kids got pizza as a reward, so it was a complete win in their minds.

You are right about area should be A, instead of height, and radius should not be Z, either, but I improvised and made it the Z axis.

I will be happier if they remember their math, and carry that on to their next generation.

I have been teaching my 4th grade students their first actual equation that also is the greatest equation of the world universe. The secret parts are that the height is A, and the distance from the center to the edge is Z.

The greatest equation is that the actual volume of pizza that you get in any pizza is equal to…PI x ZZ x A. They ate it up.

I had this happen when I was at my Dr’s appt. I needed a script for oxygen. Prior to that, I watched several people walk in, get called to go to one of the examination rooms almost immediately. The thing is that each one of the other patients was obviously in far worse shape. When I finally was seen, my Dr started apologizing profusely. I told her that I know what triage means and to not worry about it. Stuff happens. If I was one of the others, I would want relief too.

My partner and I have separate bathrooms. It saves bottlenecks and conflicts, and is worth it to us, even in our small house. We keep our own rooms clean, enforcing the “I am an adult” rule, you make a mess, you clean it up. Piss splash is gross to clean up. I don’t make an extra mess if I do not need to.

Does the adhesive taste as good as the ones in grade school?

I put one of these in a Victorian which had a kitchen being brought up to code. Doors and windows cut up the kitchen wall space, leaving this as an elegant solution to have an efficient kitchen. I did have to reinforce the seams behind and at the chevron cut at the sink edge. I liked working at the sink. Dishes were easy to reach, and water did not splash when handwashing dishes, but making more room for modern appliances was nicer. If the kitchen was not destroyed in a flood, I would still have it. I liked it.

The trick that I teach the shorter humanoids is to subtract 1 from the multiplier of 9, put that number in the 10s column, then complete the nine and put that in the 1s column.

Then we spent some time finding the pairs of numbers that make 9. 1+8. 2+7, 3+…7+2, 8+1. I have to be explicit in this part, or they will shortcut to 3, (use fingers to count to 9) uh 6? They usually learn it in a day or two. To get them to flash to instantly know their times tables takes longer.
