Personally, I prefer flatpak but that’s mainly because I have no idea how to use Godot and it feels a bit like overkill installing a game engine to compile an executable.
That’s in no way a dig at what you’ve achieved, it’s very valuable work and I realise it’s still at an early stage.
I use Tuta’s because it syncs across multiple devices.

In my own personal experience, Nextcloud;
I should’ve been clearer - the speed issues were to do with installation (and updating) rather than running speed. The whole process seemed very slow and hung quite often. But, as I just said to @Varyk, maybe that was a misconfiguration on my part.
I’m definitely not an Ubuntu hater at all, its just the culmination of a few things like the Snaps coupled with Canonical’s slightly weird attitude was enough to make me want to switch.
As for LMDE, I definitely recommend it. It’s solid as a rock and once I put Gnome on it, was exactly how I wanted it.
The install process mainly - it used to hang quite a lot for me. But, maybe that was something I had misconfigured.
I just found them incredibly slow and I don’t like the fact that Canonical have a good go at forcing you to use them, even going as far as not shipping Flathub.
I am in no way an expert - I do use the terminal for some things (node apps etc) but other than that, I use the GUI for everything.
I ain’t saying you’re wrong or your points are invalid, but bear in mind that Lemmy is a very young piece of software. It will evolve to cope with these kind of issues and if the lead devs don’t step up, then - as was seen in the near-recent CSAM attacks - the community will and develop it’s own set of tools/plug-ins.
All social media type software goes through a kind of perpetual arms-race with bad actors and whilst it’s not impossible, it’s often very difficult to anticipate what method the next lot of bad actors will chose to attack the lemmyverse with.

This little side -journey has been a complete waste of time. All I wanted was a recommendation or two relevant to things I needed which I clearly explained in my post. Instead I got told I was making no sense and should use third party solutions which is a remarkable thing to read in a self hosting community where I would assume most people realise others want y’know to self host.
If people don’t have relevant recommendations they could’ve just said that or even better, say nothing.
