Eat them dry while maintaining eye contact to assert dominance.
I have 20k followers and no option to turn off ads except the thing mentioned above, which only swaps ad types. But it might be different for people who have monetized their channels, which I don’t have and never will.
Even better would have been an option to turn them off entirely =P but that’s what UBlock Origin is for.
As someone with a youtube channel and regular uploads … fuck ads. Use uBlock Origin, Adblock Plus or whatever else works to wipe that garbage off the screen.
I’m extra sour about their suuuuuper useful new-ish option for content creators to turn off personalized ads in their channels - something I immediatly agreed to, because I thought it would, … y’now … get rid of the fucking ads.
Nope. All it does is swap “personalized” ads for “unpersonalized” ones, so my followers get the same type of garbage shoved into their faces, just more random. Thanks Youtube, this is exactly what I wanted to achieve. dripping sarcasm, in case it wasn’t obvious
You know a dad joke is a good dad joke when you angrily groan while being compelled to still upvote it.
f I created a community, would I become it’s (lone) moderator automatically?
Yes. But you can also immediatly appoint new mods and/or un-mod yourself if there are other mods present, so it is easy to give a community away when there are other interested users. It’s not a permanent thing.
What consequences, requirements and things would I need to keep in mind as a moderator?
Your community needs to be compatible wih the Fediverse Code of Conduct … but that boils down to “don’t be a dick and don’t post illegal stuff” which is pretty much just common sense. It’s not exactly hard to follow those rules ;)
Apart from that, you can set whatever rules you want. But keep in mind that the Fediverse is still a lot smaller than reddit, so if you are TOO niche / narrow / strict with the rules, you’ll have a hard time finding people who want to engage with your community. General, broad-themed communities with easy-to-follow rules have a bigger chance to thrive.
… and a personal little tip: don’t slam down the ban hammer at every opportunity. As a mod you are able to ban, silence, remove or otherwise “punish” people for bad behaviour, but that doesn’t mean that you have to do that. It’s a lot better to give users the benefit of the doubt, explain instead of punish (as they might not be aware that they did something bad in the first place), and give them a reasonable chance to fix their mistakes on their own before taking action. Post removal, bans and the like should be reserved solely for when the user in question is unwilling to cooperate OR did something obviously super shitty (like threatening other users, using slurs, posting illegal stuff etc.)
Is it advisable to copy-paste content from Reddit to kickstart new communities (given that the link source to the original content was added as well when making new posts)?
Well … as a last resort, yes. Original content or stuff from non-reddit sources is always preferable as it gives users of the Fediverse an incentive to visit communities here instead of going to reddit, but copypasted content is still better than no content at all, so if you can’t find interesting / worthwile stuff elsewhere, then copypasting from reddit is okay-ish too.
OC is still way better tho.
Like others have said already: it sells. It’s the same reason why seemingly every single fantasy/adventure game is called an “RPG” regardless of whether or not it contains actual RPG elements, like creating your own character.
“Fun” Fact: that chart isn’t even a joke - it is actually, factually, pretty accurate. You can get a prison sentence of up to 3 years for that particular gesture.
…on the other hand, it is a wonderful piece of irony that a joke about Germans turns out to be a non-joke in disguise, lol. German humor is no laughing matter, after all!
=P
I don’t know how anyone thought this was a good idea for a video.
The dumber and more infuriating a video is, the higher the chance that viewers will start arguing with each other and/or the creator, and share links offsite to show others just HOW dumb and infuriating the video is. It’s the entire point of Rage Bait to be as obnoxious as possible to make people interact with the video in one way or another, because the creator gets “paid per click” in ad revenue. It doesn’t matter to those people whether the comments are actually civil discussions or literally every youtuber just commented “f- you!”, because both are worth one click = same amount of cash. Sharing links offsite is free advertisement on top of that.
Long story short, it is deliberate. And the best way to deal with those is to report and ignore them.
I know it is supposed to say “Service Fee” but after reading your comment my brain is unable to read anything other than Service Egg now …
Maybe not “reserved” but eaten less frequent? Let’s say a poor peasant during that time owned 10 guinea pigs and had the choice to either slaughter one of the little guys for one single meal, or sell some to the higher-ups and buy less expensive food that will last for a week or two, then it would make sense if the peasants ate less of them than nobility even if it wasn’t explicitly forbidden.
Fun Fact; they’re called “Meerschweinchen” (“little pigs of the sea”) in German as they were imported by Spanish sailors (as food, not as pets). I know they have been used as lifestock in South America way before that, but the sailors were basically the first ever time Germans heard about those animals.
The only thing I find a little weird about this picture is that it isn’t skinned. You can buy frozen whole rabbits in Germany, but they’re always skinned. Is this a hairless breed or did they somehow remove the fur?
I recently made the mistake of installing Avast, and it does the same annoying garbage. The actual settings are buried under a metric shit ton of “Did you know that…?” pop-ups that appear every single time no matter how often you select “do not show me this again”, and it constantly urges you to buy the “premium” version for extra features that are literally useless to me.
And it was a pain to uninstall as well. Some files survived the official Avast uninstall AND separate uninstall from the Task Manager, and messed with the Windows Defender, which was unable to recieve updates for a while until I found and nuked the hidden residue of Avast.
the biggest pain in the ass
…that’s because they’re not meant for that, despite looking… uh …similar.
Joke aside, that mess sure does look annoying, and it is probably also not easy to replace parts if one of those lines snap or get twisted too much.
In addition to what others have said already, keep in mind that the items in this list are the ones that did NOT sell. If there were 100 cheaper offers and 30 that demand a batshit insane price, the 100 cheap ones will be sold eventually and disappear from the list, leaving only the batshit insane ones active.
Just an example …
Beauty and the Beast “rare” black diamond collection, still sealed - $35,- https://www.ebay.de/itm/134709088162?epid=15033850025
The same movie in the same condition - $6.000,- https://www.ebay.de/itm/115763173389?hash=item1af405d80d:g:KEkAAOSwIrhkQXJt
The prices for that thing vary extremely but guess which ones get actually sold …
Ohhh nice! and lots of good content on there already as well ♪
Wellllll … I’ve never personally tried it myself (=P) but AFAIK it should not hurt. Seals have a very thick layer of fat under their skin (blubber) so it probably feels like bouncing on a gym mattress at worst. Plus, their natural habitat is full of uncomfortable looking rocks anyway (example) and it would be an evolutionary disadvantage if they were in pain all the time from just moving around. Flat pavement without sharp edges probably feels less uncomfortable than those rocks.
…and that extra pun in the post title… /chef’s kiss
…they are doing it because they were going to throw their money at some 501©(3) for tax reasons anyways and they figured they’d make it a big opportunity to publicly launder their reputation as an ad campaign
There is a big metal cage at the entrance of our store, where customers can “donate” stuff like dog food cans and blankets to a nearby animal shelter. You’re only allowed to put stuff in there that you JUST bought inside of the store (allegedly for “safety reasons” so that noone can put poisoned food in there or whatever) and the store then treats the contents of that cage as donations FROM the store even tho the items have been paid in full by customers already.
Shady AF but if you try to argue against it, people automatically assume that you’re a mean A-hole that wants shelter dogs to starve. No idea whether this is even legal TBH.
If you want to donate something, always donate cash or items DIRECTLY to a shelter.
Oh…yeah, that does look a lot closer to it. Thanks for pointing it out ^^ I’m going to edit the post.
