Thats a lot of text to say „I‘m not interested in debate.“
I think its the wrong platform if you just want to push your ideas and takes and cant accept different opinions. A blog would be more fitting in that case.
And again, have a good one.
Thanks for mentioning this. I recently switched to kodi for my tv setup and it works well with plex. I wonder if jellyfin would work with it. I might try it.
Plex is pretty awesome, ngl. I always wanted to try jellyfin since paywall and all but since most people wont donate to open source to save their own lives, I really cant blame them.
I think peertube needs shortd and mobile apps desperately to fill this void.
I completely agree that everyone should use free software. Not for free of course but by donating or straight up paying for it.
That aside, I think your stance is the „vindictive vegan“ approach. While I‘m a newly found fan of veganism, I strongly dislike the „you’re either with us or against us“ approach.
I personally run a matrix server (which is foss, even if it sounds like its second class foss to you) and have it bridged to discord, whatsapp and signal. Why? Because that helps me convert people.
Their reasons for joining matrix:
I think there are better albeit more manipulative ways to get people to convert instead of punching them on the nose. Certain matrix only rooms do help, provided they have no equivalent on the other side.
Anyway, have a good one.
I dont know about caddy but nginx proxy manager does this very well. Also, if running in docker, you can expose the port that runs ssh for forgejo und a different port than the host machine‘s (eg 2222). In that case you just put the remote in with the port and call it a day.
I wish they got sanctioned into oblivion.
Btw are you people seeing autocorrect decline on iphones before the launch of AI iphones? Pretty sure thats also illegal.
Apple is getting their butt handed to them in china. Very nice.
Hi there and congrats on giving the idea of migrating towards digital freedom a go.
I personally havent used macs ever but am on ios still for my phone and was on windows before with outlook, excel and word.
What I did was the following:
I run a plex server that organizes my music library and plays my music on all devices. Some things like sonos still have some issues with flac files but otherwise, playlists and albums are no problem. I dont know how strictly you need everythin on device because apple doesnt let you do that on linux without hacking itunes to run on wine. I stream music from my server and it is always reliable as long as I have minimal connection. There is a download option but I havent tested it. Movies play with no issue.
I fully transitioned to libreoffice on devices and use collabora office with my nextcloud instance when I want to cooperate over cloud services. Outlook has been replaced by thunderbird, events go through nextcloud, synced over all devices.
Also nextcloud. I sync all my photos between computers and my iphone. Nextcloud is work to set up but it is imho the most integrated solution which gives you a pretty comfortable experience. You can host it yourself or pay someone to host it for you which of course would mean a lot of trust that is needed.
For the sake of my sanity, my private stuff stays on my home network and the only way in is a vpn which I have automated on my laptop and a linux phone that I‘m working on. Ios afaik needs manual activation but once its synced, you‘re good. That takes the biggest threat away from personal cloud hosting imo. Just secure your home network and there should be no issues.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
P.S.: I would suggest you first build the infrastructure. An old quad core with 8 gb ram, gigabit wired network and two good nas disks in raid 1 with an encrypted off site backup gives you double redundancy.
Sounds good to me. :)
You‘re doing important work against misinformation. Thank you.
I‘ve been their webhosting for 10 years and besides some minor errors (website didnt work for 30 mins here and there) I‘m very happy.
I informed myself about their cloud programme with help of a sales rep and although it is quite expensive compared to hetzner, it seems very usable.
I dont think you need to worry about them for a vps. Its not like they would rob you or your data will be lost. They might turn out to be slightly better or worse than hetzner long term which would both be fine in my book.
Amen
I agree 100%. If you want any help from a fellow admin and coder, my matrix handle is in my profile. Feel free to hit me up.
If you search for lemmy bots you should definitely find some.
Also, I couldnt subscribe earlier, not sure why. I‘ll try again in a sec but you should keep an eye on it because this can hamper popularity substantially.
Edit: was able to subscribe now. Maybe voyager just choked.
I dont get the blanket-hate. I saw your initial post about this and I‘m glad you went through with it.
You might want to have concise methods and tipps in your sidebar to mitigate scams because they will likely happen as they do with real money.
Judging from the reaction, you might also straight up look for mods who can delete span and trolling since hate = trolls will come and try to shut you down.
Oh man… that article is very long but the first 10 or 20 paragraphs make me nauseous.
Understood!
I meant much too complex to grasp without more context, sorry if that came out wrong.
I didnt think of the pi being potentially used for high resolution/audio quality footage. My pi runs on a 720p tv so the internal gpu has a lot less to do than yours so I guess its possible that was the problem.
Good luck
Insane work. My dollar a week is obviously well spent on you. :)
