I’m using a 32" 4k monitor without scaling, even if my eyesight is not the best. I have no trouble at all with it. It’s the more common 27" 4k monitors that have tiny fonts and need scaling. But 32", 4k it’s fine at 100%!

As for 1080p, it’s enough for most things. You mentioned the dpi comparing it to a 24" 4k monitor, but why would you need 24" for a 1080p monitor? Anything above 20" is a waste for 1080p.

TWO of my laptops were bit by that bug/error. Not one. Two.

But what they offered was not a real solution. I’m an experienced computer user, and still didn’t wanna mess with that “solution”.

This was done just to force people to upgrade to a Win11 (and maybe get a new PC too, if their old one couldn’t run Win11). If not that, then simply, incompetence in general.

The Pi won’t cast from your phone, so Im not sure how you will make things better if using your phone is must-have. I also use cast as my main way to watch stuff, and i’ve experienced my cast devices not being found from different phones and same apps. E.g. the pixel phones find the cast devices (chromecast, and a hi-fi system that has cast abilities), but a Realme no-name chinese android phone won’t. Or that my chrome browser can’t find the cast devices either, no matter which OS is used under (I have to cast the whole tab).

And even if you install emby or jellyfin on your raspberry pi, the app might not see the casting device. It’d work better if you just don’t cast, and instead just direct emby/jellyfin’s phone app to play the media on the raspberry pi connected to a tv.

Also, be aware, that 1 GB of ram is not enough to use emby/jellyfin. I have a raspberry pi 3b+ with 1 gb of ram and it swaps like crazy when i use these media servers (music only). Minimum is 2 gb, best if you can get it with 4 or 8 gb. If video is needed, you will need a Pi5 for best results.

I think that this betrays their plans: Windows will go “free with ads”, with an ad-free version that is subscription only. That doesn’t hurt their bottomline since the governments and companies of the western world will still go subscription in order to get support. The ones who don’t have enough money for that (individuals, small countries/companies, small municipalities), they will go “free with ads”. I mean, practically, Windows is free even right now. They have oem serial numbers that activate the OS for free, legally, to be reused. So why not make it profitable, it’s their thinking. Also, on newer builds of Win11 you can’t avoid logging in without an msn account.

Yeah, very weird, haha! It seems that it happens to a few users, maybe users in a specific list? Because from the thousands of users over here, to happen to load my username, it seems that the mix up happens between very few users, and possibly some that are in a very specific list (by mods?). It doesn’t happen on .world you see…

The laws don’t go far enough to protect usability of both the hardware and software. For example, the new EU law about software, only requires smart TVs to have software updates for only 5 years (my own $2k Sony TV only gave me software updates for its AndroidTV for only 2 years! – these days I don’t connect it to the internet at all due to security problems). Who throws a TV every 5 years? IMO, it should ask for 6 years for full updated phones, plus 3 additional years for security updates, computers should go to 12 years, and TVs to 15 years.

Personally, I’ve been gathering old laptops and towers from friends and family and “upgrade” them with Debian and XFce. As long as they have more than 450 Passmark CPU points, and 2+ GB of RAM, these machines can still serve a purpose. So far, I’ve repurposed 12 such machines and gave them away back to their owner, my mom, my nieces, and two of my cousins. Even on machines with only 2 GB of RAM, it’s enough to run a browser with up to 3 tabs before touching the swap file (Debian/XFce clean-boots to about 800 MBs of RAM). That works just fine for someone like my mom who doesn’t even how to open a new tab, or for a young kid researching for school.

I would do the same with old phones too, but most of the models bought here in Greece are cheap Chinese Xiaomi/Huawei/realme phones, so LineageOS doesn’t support them. That’s the biggest travesty these days, since very few people buy computers now. Think if Google could ask as part of android license that all phones have usb-out for monitors, and all these phones can then be transformed like Samsung’s desktop DEX OS. I mean, most phones today have 4+ GB of RAM and 128 GB internal memory, just like an old laptop would. It should be able to transform itself into a desktop OS on demand and extend its life and its purpose.

The phenomenon is here since the late '40s. So militarizing space now might be about the phenomenon (or at least, in part). My problem is that many people think that this whole thing is a distraction. It’s not. It seems that several Congress members, from both parties, are interested in unveiling where trillions of dollars went by the military, that can’t account for most of it. And by digging, they found the ufo program, and they’re trying to get to the bottom of it. Instead, people see it the other way around: a monolithic evil government trying to distract us or scare us so they get more money. This is just laughable from where I sit, having experienced what I experienced, and having closely looking at what’s going on with the congress.

This kind of meme is disheartening seeing on Lemmy, that’s supposed to be full of open minded people. And I write that as someone who saw a real UFO in 1990 in Greece, together with others. The tech in 1990 was not there for the US to create a silent, gravity-defying, appearing and disappearing in-front-of-our-eyes vehicle. So this meme, AND the comments from the other lemmy posts in the last 2 days about the recent ufo events are rather insulting to me. The phenomenon is real.
