Man, English is so wacky. After reading that post twice the structure fell apart in my mind, and I’m a native speaker. Hats off to anyone who picked up the language along the way.

Like if you cap the top 230 most wealthy people at a billion (or 10) US, we could build a shitton of lead free aquaducts or whatever your favorite ‘metric of the commons’ is.

He has probably never had more than the ever-elusive ‘fleeting high’. He’s in a skinner box, where he has already maxed out the ill effects of one of our more powerful tools (money). He has to go to ever further extents to quiet the demons that most of us had to cope with since adolescence.
To drive the point home, he’ll never be able to make any new authentic connections in his life (if he ever could in the past). While it is a bit copium, and I am as frothy in the mouth about his antics as any well-meaning individual, I do find it one of the constant, if smallest, wins.

I don’t think this a preference question. More like something intrinsic to a society based on market.
I’m kinda partial to Rage Against Vanessa Carlton.
They call it ‘The Valley of the Hung Hobo’.
Hey baby… You lookin fine tonight!
Like when you set up 10 pins for someone else to knock down with a ball and it’s pretty symmetric?
Yes, but with “fixing” the structure, you have robbed it of colloquialism. Maybe it’s just me projecting.
I lived among non-native speakers for the longest time, and shaped my English using my knowledge of other languages to bridge some gaps in communication. Now I’m back to a native environment and catch myself slipping up with my invented phrases.
The thing is, I can’t find another combination of words to convey the exact sentiment so succintly, even though I’m not sure it’s gramatically correct.
