For others, I set up uBlock at minimum.

    For myself uBlock + uMatrix.

If on a computer need more security uBlock + uMatrix + NoScript.

uBlock and uMatrix can block scripts, but I find NoScript’s fine grain control to be user friendly. Makes it a pain to browse the web though, until you setup each of your normal sites.

OMG, I’m dealing with a developer right now that is dealing with patient collected samples in several timezones, allowing the patients to either enter the time they collected, or use current time, and storing it in UTC time.

We do not receive any timezone data, patient collection data is showing different days than the patient could write on their samples depending on the time of day, and the developer said ‘just subtract X hours’ (our timezone)… for which not all patients would live in.

I suppose I could, if they’d provide the patient’s timezone, but they don’t even collect that. Can you just admit your solution is bad? It’s fine to store a timestamp in UTC, but not user provided data… don’t expect average users to calculate their time (and date) in UTC please.

Burger King has a new burger that I like, and it’s $10 (burger only). I would order it lots if it was $7 to 8, but $10 is a tad much.

Eating out now days is just too expensive in general. If I’m going to eat out, I rather go to an actual restaurant, because fast food costs about the same now days. $14-16 fast food mean vs $12-22 for sit down meal. I can keep the fast food costs down, but that’s usually without a meal, and/or ordering inferior products.

  • Yeah, basically you’re a millennial if you’re currently in your 30’s. If you’re within a few years of that age, you may technically be a millennial, or even if not, you may still consider yourself a millennial, and that is fine. Generations are gradients, there is no firm start, or end, and as stated, is more about generalized experiences of your age group.

If you are 25 and want to call yourself a millennial, that’s fine, if you want to call yourself a gen z/zoomer, that’s fine too.

  • Until recent times, I’ve always thought a govt job was a good thing to have.

Still is, but the constant threat of government shutdowns, in the US at least, as of late, make me feel you need to live below your means and keep a decent chunk of 3 to 6 months pay, because you could suddenly be without pay for a good chunk of time because some idiots think they score political points, or will get their way, by hurting citizens.

I feel like Discord fills a different need than forum type systems.

The one API I have on discord, likes Discord as a place for casual chat about the system. I think the devs prefer it because it is an active place for the community; to word it better, ‘hey look at this cool thing I did’ > response within a few minutes ‘that’s cool’ heart^5 fire^3 thumbs up^7. Whereas on a forum you’d be waiting for hours, or just not have that casual of a conversation.

It replaces the old usage of IRC servers.

The help channel is highly responsive, and great for things you want a quick chat about, need a response now, or if you get help now great, but if not, you’ll figure it out on your own before you would ever get help on a forum, so it’s not worth posting to a forum.

Threads really do help organize when a discussion is going to be large, and discord is very much searchable, just not from your browser search engine.

For changes to the API, ideas, issues, or bugs, they direct you to github “Discussions” or “Issues”. They do have an idea discord channel, but it’s a more casual thing, or far out there discussions.

Discord does get a lot of hate for it’s searchability, which is valid, but I don’t have a problem with it as long as places like Stack Overflow (or what replaces it) are still around.

  • Thanks. They either wisened up that people don’t like change and need to force it, or didn’t add the option to android.

The “New Layout” section exists on android, but they got rid of the toggle; now you can only give feedback or learn more.

I would like the option to toggle off new layout, but do agree if that is the layout going forward, they should have it as the default so new people learn it out the door, but those that don’t like the change have a choice.

I’m sure the change is fine, I’ve just spent the past few days too busy to realize it was an update change, and that my app was buggy, having trouble finding DMs, and switching back to servers.

I’m sure it was an announcement/dev notes, but they’ve trained me to not read those and immediately close them, because they happen every few days, and they always pop up when i am opening the app from notification, and I just want to reply to the notification, not deal with adverts for Nitro, or to subscribe now while there is this super special discount, or learn about 3 new features I will never use, nor care about.

  • I normally buy Charmin ultra soft at Costco.

I was at target and we were low, so just grabbed some there.

Turns out the rolls (cardboard tube and all) were like an inch less wide. For some reason that extra inch makes me comfortable, and I’ve been so angry at the Target rolls while I try to use them up. I have big hands… this kind of shrinkflation can get messy.

  • That their local representative was anti-gun control before this shooting affected his own local area, only proves your point more. That he changed his opinion is a good thing, but too little too late.

Very impressed that he publicly came out to accept responsibility for the Maine shooting with his previous opposition to gun control though, and is now advocating for it.

Unfortunately, it may take several shootings in all the representatives’ and senators’ home towns that are in opposition to actually flip them (even then, it wouldn’t change many of their minds, unless it actually personally affected them), and the country shouldn’t have to suffer that. It likely will literally take a constitutional amendment to prevent the supreme court from overturning any legislation enacted (or at least stripping it down to become fluff legislation with little meaning, or effect).
