My wife and I go out of our way to try to reinforce the fact that we, as parents, very very very much appreciate their teachers. We give them Christmas cards, end of year cards, we donate gifts to them, and any time they send home a letter saying they are running low on supplies we donate something with a thank you card. Hopefully this eventually becomes apparent to the kids that they should appreciate the teachers just as much.

No doubt, it is just funny to be that passenger rail is so out of fashion in the US that most of the population things the rails simply don’t exist, when they clearly do, in droves even. They are just privately owned and rarely shared.

The United States has more usable rail miles than all of Europe combined. But it’s limited to freight traffic only. Amtrak has to lease time on the rails, which is why it’s pricey

I looked up the University of Cincinnati’s finances once because I never realized they were public. I think UC owns non-liquid non-realestate assets somewhere in the 30billion range. They still ask for donations, despite the fact they could give free education to every student for multiple years.
