I get it, and lol or whatever, but Ireland is getting two ferries(?) from entirety of the mainland, and the UK is still connected via the tunnel which looks to be a major link-hub for the new system. I guess if it weren’t for Brexit there might have been an Edinburgh-Amsterdam or -Brussels link, but it’s not like Aberdeen or New Castle was going to get any love.
Not popular- commercial. The early internet had effectively no profit motive. As it aged there was a modicum of balance between use and profit - a good site drives customers. Now there are a preponderance of sites which exist only to scrape pennies off advertisers and have no useful content except that which is required to garner a click from a search engine in hopes you will accidentally create an advertising impression.
I missed mine by 2 months and now it’s part of an expensive your@name.com email service so I’ll never get it (but google reminds me to check every year). I settled for my surname.org; I still had to scoop it up in the early 90s to get it.
I really want the .inc for my personal non-profit, but not for the $2500/yr the registrar wants for it.
Look, Elon, X is never going to be a “thing”. Just get over it and move on.
I wouldn’t mind the various levels of there were a simple, consistent marking standard for speed and power rating.
My takeaway from the article was that Your photos are no longer real because the AI portions have altered the image captured. Your face has been cleared of wrinkles and blemishes, your eyes made larger and rounder, your aging features reduced without your knowledge or input. Of course, with your input your proportions could be manually or automatically enhanced, but also the sky replaced with a more interesting one, or people or objects “in the way” of your desired composition removed and replaced with mimicry in the background.
The adjustments available - both automatic and manual - for balance, clarity, and color temperature have always been available in analog film, even if only to a limited extent in either film selection or in developing. The AI enhancements available in modern software, especially those baked into the Camera apps which are automatic, can be far more manipulative.
Sopuli was my original instance from before I knew what the Fediverse was but however they have their server set federated community discovery has been broken from the beginning. World is my reddit migration account and I moderate a couple of communities there. I really like some of the communities on Beehaw, and they defederated pretty quickly from just about anyone with more than a few users, so I got an account there. Kbin didn’t seem to work as well cross-federation so…number 4. And I use a different handle for NSFW. It would be nice to have an app for aggregating usernames across instances, but I much of my browsing from desktop so it’s really nbd.
No need to stop using LW. I’ve got three accounts on different instances plus kbin. Oh, and I fifth on if you count my nsfw login. Partitioning your online life is nbd, really. And the fediverse makes it easy.
The phone number gatekeeping is annoying. I think ChatGPT requires it. I can’t use it because it won’t accept my phone number as I only use VoIP numbers. Never mind they used to be land and cell numbers I posted there. Same with some banking sites. No sms 2FA allowed because the gateway they use can’t jump to voip - the codes just never arrive.
Why do you even come here, Papaya. Nobody likes you.
