Doesn’t work for me on Firefox mobile. Neither “mobile” site or Desktop versions. Hitting “Next/Enter” on my keyboard does nothing, there is no Submit button that I can see, and refreshing the page just resets all fields to defaults.

I don’t want an Intel with 4gb RAM and a 256GB spinning drive, and OS included? No dice, that’s what I’m offered. Without being able to filter results, its just another craigslist/amazon/newegg front-end … a less useful one.

EDIT: Turns out there are zero fanless non-Intel, 16+GB RAM, 1024+GB SSD/eMMC offerings with USB-C to list. Strange no-one is packaging an OrangePi 5 Plus like so, but I haven’t seen a fanless heat-sink sufficient to make that a good idea anyways.

I had tweaked some of the options, but without clearing either-or-both of those last two, especially “fan-less”, all I was getting was the five sponsored “results” the top, which changed just enough to make it seem like that’s all the results I could get.

  • Who said anything about setting up a tax deduction? I’m setting up an indirect benefit to others that counts as an illiquid asset. It’s not an investment since its purpose isn’t profit, and its not charitable since I remain in control.

Pay attention to the genie’s criteria, and realize: for anyone actually trying to do some good, the IRS criteria might as well be so capricious and arbitrary. With that kind of money and a lot of these organizations, I would rather donate it directly, yes, but there are also plenty of organizations and causes where more money in the pot means more CEO and middleman pay. That, and the IRS, don’t have to count as a valid reason to withhold a single penny for someone that’s supposedly capable enough to have any business managing such a large amount.

  • First up: Capital gains Taxes. That’s $12,000,000 off the top. Next, buying the properties of all my favorite charities, museums, libraries, restraunts, stores, and setting up trusts to keep taxes and such paid on those in perpetuity … That alone should do it, within a large enough radius, but anyways … buy up the most inefficient air-planes, cruise-liners, cargo ships I can find and straight up ground/dock them or upgrade them to fix those inefficiencies. Make sure the planes are never flown again, at least not at night.

  • No, we were all talking about how they use screws of different pitches, as standard pitches vary with diameter, when they could and arguably should use screws of matched pitches. Some moron read my comment on that last bit as a complaint about variations within a batch of screws of a specific pitch, and other morons ran with it.

If you believe I missed the point that screws of the same pitch, regardless of diameter, would move nuts axially(not just “vertically”, but in the orientation of the screw itself) the same distance with the same turn incriments, then you have no idea what I was saying or can’t be bothered to actually read it.

Imagine me, machining screws on a lathe, as I do, without understanding that its the consistency of the feed screw(or die if using that method) on my lathe that makes it possible. Or that I could switch my SAE feed screw with a metric one to make producing metric screws easier. Or that I could add a 127/100tooth change gear into the mix instead.

Right, I’m the ignorant one here. Machine Fabrication … its literally in my username, but no, misunderstanding/misreading my comments and throwing garbled versions of them at me because others have done so is more important than understanding the topic at hand.

  • An entirely acceptable answer to both my original question and my suggestion, although I had already attempted to address that. Every instance generating their own, seemingly non-random*, numbers for every post and comment was a big reason my mind skipped to “insanity” for my title - can we say “does not, SHOULD not, scale” any louder? Thanks again.

    spoiler

Looking at the comment links in the OP cross-referenced with entries on lemmyverse.net, discuss.tchncs.de and lemmy.dbzer0.com have similar user numbers, both an order of magnitude larger(as large? anyways…) than jlai.lu … the reason jlai.lu’s comment numbers has got so high, about one-half instead of one-tenth as the user numbers might suggest, probably boils down to those users being subscribed to a large number of communities, but still not so many as the users of the other two servers. Run that up against the fact that there are fewer communities than users, anywhere, et viola!

That concludes this episode of my conjectural bullshit. Thanks for watching.

  • Thing is, I know enough to come in here and ask “why not UUIDs?”, but instead I asked, yes, not far from the way you said it, but “why is it this way? Am I the crazy one here?” (the implication of “I think this is crazy and no one else does”, as sanity is generally defined by society or group concensus)

Funny story, I’m not crazy in this respect, this time, and the fix is already in the lower-level codebase even though the webUI hasn’t yet implimented it, or so I’m told, something that was more-or-less apparent from seeing it working basically the same across multiple clients.

It’s a little hard to contribute code from inside a moving(LOUDLY) steel box miles away from civilization, and I would have done some more research were I in a place to do so(contribute code, I mean, you know, best practices and all), but the idea that I would use this handle on github for non-machining related code is laughable, although you are correct on the specific criteria that I have contributed no code there whatsoever. I am well aware that I am more valuable here(not there, for now) as a shit-stirrer with a wallet, and see no reason to come at others with bUt dO YoU CoDe!?

  • You assume I’m not contributing … based on what? I addressed participation in this thread first as that’s the most convenient for me to substantiate. I’ve bought many of the clients, before trying them and finding I preferred the webUI, but I went into this more in my conversation here with @MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz … Regardless, I’ve stuck to the topic, except for where called out for “hostility”, “entitlement”, or “not contributing”. You went there first, and seem to have benefitted from the fact that my reply ended up on the wrong one of your (dismissive and condescending from the start)comments.

I don’t need your patience. This is not your post. Should have left you blocked, but blocking you obscured @RobotToaster@mander.xyz 's far more valid, one word, contribution to the topic at hand.
