Can you name a single technology or human endeavour that doesn’t have negative side effects or potential for abuse?

The rise of anti-AI sentiment isn’t based on objective measurements of societal harms, it’s a meme because it’s new and popular and, like all memes, some people feed on the outrage-based reinforcement generated by social media interactions.

I’m not saying that there are no problems with AI. I’m saying that people are treating it as if it were a massive problem because their perception is warped by social media.

It’s one thing to think AI is poor quality in some tasks, but some users act like AI is personally assaulting them every morning as they wake up for work and pissing in their coffee.

The dentist slipped when pulling one of my non-impacted teeth and hit me in the back of the throat with his whole body weight. He prescribed me 10 days of hydrocodone and when I called back and said the default dose still left me with a sore throat he called me in another 10 days of a higher dose.

Needless to say, my throat didn’t hurt anymore and I played WoW a lot (~2007)

It’s a 40s thing that companies in the 00s decided to preemptively suck up all of the IP required to make it work.

Once the technology becomes cheap enough to sell to smartphone users there will only be a few companies who’re legally allowed to create the devices so they can have a free monopoly.

Kind of like how Apple tried to patent everything related to multitouch screen smartphones and then sue all of their competitors out of business.

We don’t have the available technology to make good AR that’s cheap enough for consumers. But, when we do, you’ll find that a few tech companies will claim ownership of key components because of products that they briefly made back in the 00s.

Google’s Glass headset wasn’t a product, it was an IP squatting strategy that sold a few units.
