  • Are they truly Democratic though. Anarchism is an extreme form of democracy BTW. Not anti democratic. Coming at it from an American perspective, even many of our founding father’s figured by now we’d have majorly overhauled our governing system nearly 10 or more times. They knew their system was flawed. Instead institutional inertia has caused it to become progressively less democratic by many measures. And people turned the founders into infallible deities.

I have less issue with those advocating to rework or abolish institutions. Than those that as a blanket say we can’t question or modify them. Criticism etc should be couched in actually making those institutions more democratic and equitable of course. Not like the economic liberals that like to pretend that they are Libertarians advocating for tax cut and end to regulations that reign in the avarice of Corporations And the wealthy.

  • You might be reading too much into this. Now if you can link to that same user praising Marxist leninism or any of the countries still based on that ideology. Then you have a hypocrisy to critique. But in the absence of that. Those are valid critiques of both Western democracy and Marxist leninist governments. And it’s probably based on their lived experience in a western democracy that they are criticizing it. I’m sure you can find many in China who would have similar criticisms about their own system.

And just to make sure it gets said. Anarchists have no more love for the Chinese Communist Party than you do. So if you think they’re honestly using Anarchist as an attack Vector of the west. They’re going to need all the luck they can get with it.

  • Lemmy as a whole is pretty staunchly left and tolerant generally. Looking for things flagging themselves left here. Implies looking for the left of the left. Which ultimately leads to circle jerking and edgelord virtue signaling. It’s a bad time. Left can mean different things to different people. Drasticly so. If you consider yourself “left” look into some of their philosophies and see what resonates. Then look for communities based around that. You’ll likely have a much better time. And learn things in the process. Win win.

  • I have a relatively recent ryzen system. With a 2070 super and windows 11. Sitting next to it is an i4790 system with a 1060 and no nvme. I use it daily. Love the hell out of it. It just runs. Windows 11 actually refuses to use the KVM. It’s just a constant pain in the ass. So lately I’ve turned it on maybe once a week at most. One of these days soon I’m going to bite the bullet and get a new nvme drive just for Linux on it. That way I don’t have to risk windows clobbering it for how little I will use it. My most recent heavy use of it was free games off of Amazon games. So that I can install and use them on the Linux system. If there’s no proper Amazon games client for Linux. There is a CLI downloader. But it doesn’t let you clean things Etc or notify you.

  • 100%. If any of us can think quickly of things that publicly traded companies regularly do that we hate. Investing in the stock market and publicly traded companies is unethical. Because the nature of being publicly traded inevitably means that they will all do those sort of behaviors. Whether it’s companies ignoring IP and not allowing others any way of developing or continuing it. No matter how much they promise to pay said company Etc. Or gobbling up and laying off teams of Developers just to eat more of their IP. I’m sure plenty of us can think of plenty of things that publicly traded companies do that we absolutely hate. But every one of them is obligated to behave that way.

And on the youtuber recommendations you’re spot on. Geerling lacks a little charisma. But as a fellow resident of the state of misery we gotta stick together. And I definitely enjoy his content. I still watch ltt. But I don’t blame anyone who doesn’t. The thing that differentiates all the ones you mentioned from ltt however, is the size. Ltt blew up, Linus and his wife hadn’t been able too manage it properly for some time. Jay, tech Jesus etc have teams working for them. But they are so much smaller and more focused than ltt. Hell even MKB is. Their hiring of a proper CEO I think will help in the long term. Though it might not win back those they lost.

  • So Google is selling license for code and technologies. They’ve shown no ownership of in a competitor’s product? Google is actively funding litigious troll shell corporations who shown no actual harm to harass and drain competitors resources? Google is creating and using secret apis for themselves. Breaking the ones for third parties in order to hold them back?

I’m not saying Google’s good Or anything. Not defending them in any way. But they’ve got a long way to go before they reach Microsoft level. Microsoft is literally the reason why before going public. Google had the motto of don’t be evil.

  • Probably a tonal issue on my part. Not intentional. But it’s happened before. Combined with the fact that despite my advice being sound. It’s far from an ideal solution for a number of people. Not everyone can buy online, and many don’t have the interest or aptitude to procure and assemble themselves. And it sucks that there isn’t a better option. Brick and mortars etc providing an option.

I have run Linux on systems from every major SI. Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, IBM etc. Tower wise these days it’s fairly foolproof outside network or graphics interfaces. Realtek is a mess. And Nvidia IS getting better, but still shits the bed badly when I try to use it with Wayland and the software I want to use. Which is getting to be issue enough that I’m de-nvidifying where possible till Nvidia gets it together.

Laptops are a special hell though. Malfunctioning/non functioning screen controls, IO, and peripherals that can’t be replaced etc. The next laptop I buy will be one built with Linux compatibility in mind. I’m getting to the point myself that while I can chase down and fix issues. I would rather it just fully worked. Replacing the m.2 network interfaces on systems that allow it is great and all. But at my age my eyesight is getting to where attaching the antenna leads is very challenging.
