I am also @Quill7513@slrpnk.net, but this is my primary and more active account. The slrpnk.net account is for ecology and lemmy.world stuff

I wonder if its because Beehaw is staying on 18.x while awaiting Sublinks
Lionir is talking about API implementations for everything to go off a single CSS file or a single icon pack. Not about the implementation of your personal desired aesthetic (I refuse to use the term rice, it has origins in racist car and motorcycle culture)
So. In pornography you’ll have a thumbnail that’s focused on what gets people intrigued to see a model perform, the face. This church is using a thumbnail for their ad that looks SHOCKINGLY like a porn promo thumbnail. Reason being sex sells
Duuuude American mega-churches are PURELY profit oriented
Don’t even have to imagine. IBM made those into the early 90s. My family had one
Do you have an open community space nearby? Maybe you could grab some crappy instruments from reverb and invite walk-ons to just join in. I’ve been surprised in the past how much people who complain about something end up liking the thing they complain about once invited to join in
I’ve been thinking lately about the industrialization of music. Used to be before the gramophone you’d play music in your house. Sometimes you’d be bad. And everyone was fine with it. We just did it to enjoy it. Sometimes you and your neighbors would go to that one barn everyone was gathering in where the best musicians in town would play. They were your neighbors and friends. But now we don’t know our musicians. We don’t make music. We just consume it. I think we need to reclaim music. I think everyone should download DAWs and just… Fucking… Suck. And share their suck with friends and family. What you produce doesn’t have to be polished, or good, it just needs to be tour own.
I like Org Mode, but that’s sort of… Begrudgingly. I like any FOSS notes app better than any closed source notes app. That’s not even me having strong feeling about FOSS (which I do), it’s more about… I am very picky about note apps. Org Mode (with org-roam) does the best job of getting out of my way and letting me write and resurface notes.
Mate we’re extremely in debt trying to get Iraq and Iran to bend the knee like all the other countries we’ve imperialized and not only is it not working, it looks like its never going to work. In the 1950s we held 50% of the worlds wealth. Not only will there be a decline in the near future, the decline has been going on for 30 years
Fascism is simply the conclusion of capitalism. Antifa is a bunch of socialists because socialism is the only cure. Anticomm and Fascism have so much overlap as movements because they’re the same movement. Even in the historical context of the first rise of fascism, who took the reins of power was people promising the capital holders they’d protect them from those scary laborers. And do you know what we don’t talk about enough in America? We don’t talk enough about why fascism didn’t take hold here. Its because in the 1920s the capital holders had seen what would happen in America if they tried to do a fascism: the coal miners rose up in violent revolt. We had what legitimately qualified as a civil war in West Virginia with the labor movement. It’s one of only two times american citizens on home soil have been bombed by an air force.
My concern is this: we don’t have enough people in this country right now who love their brethren enough to stand against fascism. I ask everyone to do this: look at the Black Lives Matter movement. Realize what the African American communities right next to you are doing to resist the police brutality they experience, the fascism they are already experiencing and resisting. Join them. Link arms with them. The reality is the antifascist movement in America is nothing new. How we prevent fascism from rising is we make sure the violent weirdos know we are many and they are few. Make sure they know they don’t have the man power to take over
They’re horrendous but because of fascist adults
It would be nice if those comments were moderated, but mostly what I saw in crunchy roll comments was straight up fascist propaganda. I’m in a place where I’m like… Not everything needs a comment section. I can take the criticism this makes me a crunchy roll bootlicker. I’ll take that L, but know this: we should all be pirating stuff all the time given how the big corporations treat our art and creations
No one wants to ban technology outright. What we’re saying is that the big LLMs are actively harmful to us, humanity. This is not fear mongering. This is just what’s happening. OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, and Meta are stealing from humanity at large and setting the planet on fire to do it. For years they told us stealing intellectual property on an individual level was a harmful form of theft. Now they’re doing the same kind of theft bit its different now because it benefits them instead of us.
What we are arguing is that this is bad. Its especially extra bad because with the death of big search a piece of critical infrastructure to the internet as we know it is now just simply broken. The open source wonks you celebrate are working on fixing this. But just because someone criticizes big tech does not mean they criticize all tech. The truth is the FAANG companies plus OpenAI and Microsoft are killing our planet for it to only benefit their biggest shareholders
And I specifically thank you for it. I didn’t know there was a meta reference going on. Upvoted @ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com for excellent joke craft on account of it
Programming is a form of communication. When you develop a piece of software, it will intrinsically be biased to boost the kinds of messages you believe in. This is both because you as a person think about problems a certain way, and because the code you write is meant to convey to others how you were thinking about the problem you were trying to solve. Who heads projects and how they communicate with their community matters to what the product produced will become, not just because of how the leads will think about the problem, but also because people who don’t get along with them won’t wind up contributing. Beehaw requested moderation tools that the lead lemmy Devs didn’t view as valuable. The result is beehaw, reasonably, gave up on getting PRs merged and issues tracked in the issue tracker, instead choosing to look at Sublinks which was explicitly started in response to Lemmy’s devs not behaving well with their own development community.
And for anyone saying Sublinks is splintering the Lemmy Dev community, no, lemmy’s devs did that themselves
Letting fascists loose on github doesn’t make open source software more appealing. Look at how much worse twitter is to be on after relaxing the moderation standards. Now imagine that for open source. We need to make sure open source is approachable to everyone and that means being careful with our language and not being dismissive when someone opens a PR to make the language more approachable to all
I feel for the guy. Had health issues and needed money fast. I kinda don’t blame him. Like I get its disappointing and I also won’t blame people being mad at him, but I’m more mad at the overall system of how things get funding
took out some unnecessary letters, changed how to spell gray so everyone’s always confused about which is right. overall good stuff
