Count of Monte Cristo is great but it was a bit of a slog at times if I’m honest. Granted last time I read it it was for school and I had to plow through all 650 pages or so in less than a week because I put it off til the last second

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do you ever feel like your life is "scripted"? Like everything is written by some entity controlling your life? Like you live in a fictional universe? Is this feeling normal/common?
2·1 month agoNot so much scripted as just I can logically follow where I was to where I am and infer where I’m going next. There’s surprises to be sure but there’s only so many way things can happen given the parameters of a story you’re very familiar with

9·2 months agoA working search function, real annoying having to use a different search engine to find thing on a website that ostensibly already has one

5·2 months agoYou talk to people you shared those experiences with. Someone is bound to have remembered something different you didn’t

8·3 months agoMost people realized that terms they had been using were viewed as offensive to someone because of the wildly increased communication capacity of the internet. Aside from the majority not wanting to be a dick to someone else insulting someone tends to cause trouble for the offender as well. So in purely selfish terms it was easier to just not say the things that would get you in trouble.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do narcissists have such fragile egos?
72·5 months agoA narcissist sees the rest of the world as inferior to them their perception of reality is all derivative of this opinion. When confronted with objective reality disputing that they don’t just react to the singular confrontation. Because their psuedo superiority underlines everything they think about any evidence they are wrong begins to dismantle every opinion they have. Now being forced to consider the entire way they perceive reality is flawed its easier to get angry and confrontational instead of reevaluating their worldview

Technology@lemmy.ml•Teen killed himself after ‘months of encouragement from ChatGPT’, lawsuit claims
31·5 months agoYou made my argument for me. There isn’t a thinking being on the other side. Its a computer program that sees the words “suicide” or “kill myself” and has an equally good chance to recommend a therapist or a list of methods. I’m not saying Chat GPT was holding the knife it just unthinkingly showed where to put it to an already suicidal child
Swift pushed for a loophole that would allow her to conceal the flight records of her private planes. Her argument was that her safety was at risk but to me it still came off as “I don’t want to deal with the poors complaining about my rich people behavior”. Recently ICE has been using the same loophole to conceal the flight records of deportation (read kidnapping and human trafiicking) flights.
She only said something now because her privileged ass gave ICE a tool to hide their kidnappings and she wants to push that out of the news. I try not to take issue with things that exist ostensibly to make people happy but let’s not kid ourselves, this was a calculation

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do you read analog clocks to the exact minute? How do you do this quickly?
9·5 months agoImo for most applications that I’d be using an analog clock for a time difference of even up to 5-10 minutes is irrelevant. If I really needed up to the minute accuracy I’m using a digital clock with the seconds counting down
