Oh man, let me introduce you to my absolute favorite used book seller:

Also, construction leftovers on eBay are a great way to get sink faucets, light fixtures, etc. for a house.
Oh, almost nothing gets pulverized when galaxies collide! Our Milky Way galaxy is currently colliding with a couple of small satellite galaxies. There’s so much empty space between stars that almost none of the stars themselves impact.
It’s more a matter of the gravitational orbits of the stars inside the galaxies changing dramatically. But those changes caused by a galaxy merger take millions of years. Plenty of time for life to adapt.
The biggest danger to life would be the possibility of getting blasted by radiation, if you ended up too close to a supernova or something like that.
Seriously, the handful of times I’ve checked back in on Reddit recently just made me think, “Wow I hate it here.”
I’m so much happier on the Fediverse.
Without this feature, I wouldn’t have known that Yeah Yeah Yeahs and PJ Harvey released new albums. So I’m torn. On the one hand, I’m happy artists I already love can still reach me; on the other hand, I hate that smaller artists I don’t know about yet still have to pay to play
Understaffing, penny-pinching, forcing medical professionals to take on more and more work with no help, to say nothing of increased pay. These working conditions hurt patients chronically.
That’s why doctors and nurses strike. Especially THESE doctors - the new ones who just graduated from medical school. They’re the single most exploited group of people working in healthcare when you account for how little they are paid in comparison to how much they’re expected to work and how much revenue they generate.
In the US we call them resident doctors. In the UK junior doctors. I absolutely support their strike
Lord, please tell me no one’s done that. The Department of Mental Health building here in Boston is brutalist and it’s like the worst unintentional joke
Very War of the Worlds. I like it
Oh, I know, I’m just joshing you lol. I noticed there’s no sources referenced, but cursory Google research looks like the numbers are relatively accurate. I assume whoever compiled didn’t think to look into cows because people don’t think of cows as being deadly.
And I guess it also depends on the mechanism of death that we’re including in our analysis. Because they include insects that don’t kill directly, but not deer that also don’t kill directly, but rival hippos in the number of deaths they cause each year: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deer%E2%80%93vehicle_collisions
I call shenanigans, no COWS:
“In the United States, the CDC estimates that about twenty-two people are killed by cows each year, and of those cow attacks, seventy-five percent were known to be deliberate attacks. One third of the killings were committed by cows that had previously displayed aggressive behavior.”

I grew up in Appalachia and lived in the Caribbean for a while. My friends thought it was funny when I told them I was more afraid of the cows on the island than sharks. Cows will fucking kill you lol
Surprisingly, apparently bears don’t kill that often: https://worldanimalfoundation.org/advocate/bear-attacks-statistics/#:~:text=bear%20attack%20statistics.-,There%20Are%2040%20Bear%20Attacks%20on%20Humans%20Worldwide%20Every,(Nature)

AND it’s a small molecule drug and not a new immunotherapy? Holy shit. I hope the trials go well
The X-Files is becoming like the Simpsons for predictions and I don’t think I like it
We have to pay for the services we use somehow. I’d rather it be cash than the details of my entire life. But the money to operate those services has to come from somewhere
