Accidentally fell down the ricing rabbit hole, lived out of tiling window managers for a bit, and now I’m in gnome since it finally seems to be on par with my rose tinted memories of unity. I appreciate the reply, different strokes for different folks. If you don’t mind me asking, what sort of aesthetic do you go for with your Linux config? Is it more of a matte, or something different?

Interesting, this happened to be one of my favorite looks for windows. It came across as comfortable and professional without looking like plastic or feeling sterile. A comfy medium between dark and light mode, and the glass window decorations were a nice little touch. If you don’t mind me asking, what was it that you didn’t like? If you’re in the area, I’d recommend grabbing a bite from them, definitely more of a grab and go kinda situation though, not much seating.

I think you’re absolutely right about the eternal summer. A new demographic of users takes over. The tourists move in. The shame of it is that as noted, it’s an inevitability for any social media, it’s just a matter of time.

I think the problem is that reddit is suffering the same fate as Facebook. It’s no longer a niche Internet community, it’s been overrun by people who think it’s hip and in. It’s been taken over by people who speak some of the language, but don’t get the culture. No one knows when the narwhal baconed anymore. Lemmy is exhibiting the earlier stages of reddit. Small groups that are growing, plus a looooot of star trek fans sprinkled throughout.

I feel like that doesn’t get discussed enough. The supplements provided under trump hindered way more than they helped. Might I remind you that those were promised and then delayed because Trump wanted his fucking name printed on the checks. Outside of that, the paycheck protection program was a disaster! So many companies took advantage of that while shitting all over the employees that that was supposed to help. All the while, mom and pop shops and other local places got shafted because the mega corporations tapped the fund. Then it all got forgiven?? You’ve got what is essentially neutered unemployment benefits performed solely to act as a clout grab, and you’ve got hyper inflation into the absolute wrong end of the scale of where it should go. More people focus on the former instead of the latter like the latter never happened.

It’s definitely a very well made desktop environment. It’s what I started with back in 06-08 when I started using Ubuntu. Ubuntu has a pretty well built mate flavor, as does Linux mint. The Ubuntu mate flavor is a great one to see what’s functionally possible with mate. There’s a bunch of preconfigured set ups matching various other operating systems and some unique configurations. On my main PC, I’m running garuda xfce, but with bspwm as the window manager. For my laptop, I’m running pretty much the same set up, but with Linux mint Debian edition in xfce/bspwm as well. Your set up is still rad though, I really dig it!

Pro-tip, at least when I last used Word, hold alt when dragging and dropping images. It somehow fixed the brokenness of the default way of doing it. I think this still works, I just haven’t had to type anything up in like 5-10 years, of the stuff I have, I don’t think I’ve ever had to include an image.
