I would say that was a strong influence but there were a lot of custom games with some of the elements of DOTA before it. I think DOTA defined the entire genre and how all the elements work first. Brood War just didn’t even have the options to make a real MOBA.

They clearly came to market too early. Trying to time the death of twitter. The 5-10 minutes I spent on that shit was enough to see how broken it was and how many features were missing. You can’t come to market with a broken product in a space that requires exponential growth and the network effect to achieve success.

I remember when “free range” chicken/eggs came around. The definition of that is wild. Opened my eyes to how bullshit all of the US food labeling stuff is. It means something like they have access to 2 square feet of outdoor space access. But theres like no rules on how often they need to be able to use it.
