Arkhive (they/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Has anyone migrated from a Markdown notes app to another?English7·26 days agoObsidian-Syncthing user here. I agree with what someone else said about no feedback from syncthing that it is or is not done updating files. Beyond that though, it’s a great tool that handles all my notes well.
Arkhive (they/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto pics@lemmy.world•A photo taken of border patrol federal agents during the summer 2025 Los Angeles protests1·1 month agoChild of two public educators. I’m going to disagree to an extent. There are radical teachers. They push back against standards based education because they see how it pushes an agenda from the top, rather than cater needs to the local community and individual students. There’s a lot more of these teacher than you think, and they are honestly heroes. It is thankless, low paying, emotionally and physically draining work. Like I can understand the ways they kind of messed up raising me when I think about the hundreds, maybe thousands, of other kids lives they improved, and in some cases saved.
Been meaning to swap to Niri, but I’m dreading trying to “convert” my Hyprland config to it.
Arkhive (they/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Best Free Mobile App for Streaming Self-Hosted Music?English7·1 month agoI use Finamp with my Jellyfin library for simplicity’s sake. Other things probably have better UI and such, but it’s nice to just dump all my media in my Jellyfin folders and move on.
Arkhive (they/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•By Azura! By Azura! By Azura!1·2 months agoArt imitates life.
Grew up in a cold part of the world, was a skier doing grinds and flips, but yeah, same idea!
Yeah. I rock climb as my job basically, and my finger health is in the bin most of the time…
Arkhive (they/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Fully self-hosted password manager optionsEnglish7·3 months agoI use Unix Pass connected over Tailscale to a git server I host myself. The interface options for various devices are a bit clunky, but it basically “just works” outside of that.
Edit: I used to use KeePass and syncthing, which I think is probably the best (balance of simple and effective) combo for most users.
Arkhive (they/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Jellyfin: The Free Software Media System@lemmy.ml•Does the jellyfin android app have a way to remove things you downloaded onto your deviceEnglish2·3 months agoI don’t know which versions are available on the play store, but f-droid only had the current official release, which is buggy and missing a lot. I had to go sideload the beta from GitHub and it has every feature I need including the one you’re after.Oops, thought you were asking about Finamp for just music.
Arkhive (they/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•How do I securely host Jellyfin? (Part 2)English1·3 months agoHonestly I want a Linux phone, but the scene needs to mature a bit. I’d also like a physical keyboard, so I’m even more limited in my options. LilyGo just released something I’d try, but it sold out almost instantly. Good call on the signal transfer, though I wish better platforms were catching on. Having to use a phone number to sign up kind of defeats the purpose in my opinion. Graphene and Postmark are on my short list of things to try if I end up on an android device.
Arkhive (they/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•How do I securely host Jellyfin? (Part 2)English51·3 months agoTo be totally honest I didn’t read your entire post, but just from your intro I think we are in similar situations. ISP router, low costs, using only the hardware you have around. I’ve solved a lot of stuff with Tailscale. None of my services are public facing and instead I connect to them over Tailscale (could be replaced with wireguard).
The wall I’m hitting you or maybe others could help with, is accessing my services from sub domains of a single Tailscale address rather than having to type port numbers for everything. I know this involves a reverse proxy and DNS (I use PiHole for that), but I’m stuck trying to configure the two in a way that actually works. Once I finally ditch iOS for good I’ll probably just sync a hosts file between all my devices using Syncthing to help streamline the DNS situation.
I’m very similar. Getting into self hosting and finding Lemmy happened somewhat in tandem. Now I’m happily tinkering along and looking at hosting my own instance! This comm has been a huge resource and seems very active!!

From the sounds and looks of it this is almost exactly the scale of what I’d like and running pretty much the same things I’m thinking interested in.
Arkhive (they/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Some rows of videos have different paddingEnglish12·10 months agoUnrelated, but we have a near identical feed
I’ve worked on one of these that sails off the coast of New England. It was a passenger boat that would do week long cruises. Long, tough hours, but the view from the office each morning was unbeatable.
Arkhive (they/she)@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•Ethical, easy-to-use and privacy-conscious alternatives to well-known software2·1 year agoThanks so much for all the additional info. The inclusion of donation based platforms and some products that are just degrees of removal from big corps rather than totally free of them were some my primary concerns. Thanks for all the details!
Also how can you have a section on books and library access without mentioning Libby is a shame. The apps carries so much weight as far as bridging the gap between public libraries and primarily digital customers.
That was my guess. Just wanted someone that knows more than I do to confirm.
