Hello me, meet the real me
and my misfits way of life
a dark black past is my…most valued possession.
CHU-DUU-DUN
The weird/annoying part is coming across your deleted posts on other instances 😒
That fucking sucks. I hope the deletion eventually migrates, too…
Can someone help me see how the cross apps thing works? Like can you link some mastodon post that I can see here on lemmy?
@memes @faintwhenfree @seitanic it kind of works like this ;-)
These are all cross lemmy references. But thanks.
@memes @faintwhenfree I think you are misunderstanding that I am commenting from Mastodon
Oh right that makes sense. Sorry my bad.

yeah but no one would make multiple lemmy accounts
yeah what that guy said
that’s not true, there are multiple reasons one might like to, such as if you are interested in content that is blocked by one instance, particular if you want to access content on instance a and also content on instance b, and instance a blocks instance B, or vice versa.
you could want to have separate personalities, one that you discuss your expertise as a mechanic, and another that you use to talk about your expertise as a Furry.
You might want a sock account to argue with people without getting negative votes on your primary account, etc.
You can use the same account on kbin and lemmy tho
I know, but having separate accounts within the interfaces of each site can be helpful. If I have a Mastodon account, I know exactly how my posts are going to look and act on Mastodon. Same goes with Lemmy and Kbin.
I also have access to features on one service I wouldn’t have on others. Some posts are easier to view and access from a different site or instance. Kbin doesn’t have any mobile apps yet, so I use my Lemmy account when I want to access fed on mobile.
Lastly, sometimes I’m just in the mood to use one site over the other. If I’m in the mood for more Twittery content I go to Mastodon. If I’m in a more Reddit mood, I go on Lemmy. If I want to do both at the same time, I use Kbin.
Can’t you use the same account on kbin and mastodon as well?
technically yes but the experience is pretty different

If you accidentally upvote yourself on another platform, you could go blind.
I never see any of this stuff on Mastadon
What’s the difference between kbin and lemmy?
They’re both Reddit-esque Fediverse platforms, but are developed and maintained by different people.
Huh, maybe I’ll look into it
Lemmy has been around longer, so it is probably more robust, but Kbin has more features, including the ability to follow individual users across the 'verse, and has support for a number of Fedi groups, including Friendica Forums and Guppe Groups, that Lemmy has no support for.
I thought kbin was more like Mastodon, but maybe I’m confusing it with something else.
Kbin is basically lemmy plus mastodon.
it might kind of feel like that, but its certainly not accurate.
They are different platforms, you can access Lemmy communities from Kbin, where it looks just like a kbin magazine, or from Friendica, where it looks just like a Friendica Forum, of from Mastodon, where it looks like an annoying bot that re-posts every comment as a separate Re-toot. —
There are many other Fediverse platforms but those are the ones I have the most experience with.
Interesting. I haven’t yet seen actual federation. (That I was aware of, anyway.)
How would I access something on Mastodon from Lemmy (for example)?
It is its own community that happens to be federated with Lemmy and Mastodon. You can toggle federation on and off, and when off, you only see kbin’s material. Otherwise it functionally acts like another lemmy instance, with a different interface and features missing from base lemmy.
There is also a microblog attached to it that connects with Mastodon in the same way. Each community has its own microblog that acts as a hashtag when on Mastodon.
i’m pretty sure when federation is off it also means you won’t see other kbin instances, just your own
This I didn’t know. So posting a comment on the microblog will make it visible to Mastodon as well?
And Lemmy, they all talk to each other via ActivityPub. There’s a number of commenters in this thread that are commenting from Mastodon and Kbin (like yourself) while I’m on Lemmy.
This is where I link my own post from a few days ago - but basically to say kbin is actually a very good way to browse Mastodon “Toots”, and yes you can post just as easily too.

My Mastodon account boosting my Pixelfed post! 🫵🏻
What’s kbin? When I saw it, I thought it was Mastodon… It’s a separate thing?
Why are you using multiple accounts? You DO know you can read/write posts across servers, right? Like me right now posting a comment to Lemmy from Kbin.
I do know, and I do it cause I can. The features and UI are different from site to site, and sometimes I’m a Reddit classic mood, Twitter mood, or a combination of the two. It’s the same content, but different ways of experiencing and interacting with it you know? Plus until Kbin gets mobile app support, I have my Lemmy account for Sync.
If you haven’t yet, you should try loading kbin as a progressive web app. I find it works quite well that way.
that’s why you have separate profile pics for each service, to help you recognize which you’re seeing!
Exactly. The problem is what do I do when I have more accounts than there are Eeveelutions?
Use Spinda patterns instead.
Brilliant!
Is Mastadon just Lemmy with extra restrictions? Like, can’t they see posts like mine, which bare no character limit?
