Most people outside of China have no idea. Another great one from China is the daylilly (hemerocalus) which the flower is eaten after cooking but more commonly dried and reconstituted then cooked. .
Daylilly shoots and root bulblets can also be eaten cooked but should be reserved for more of an emergency food as they contain a mild toxin that can build up on the body.
