I’m trying to make a new account on lemmy.ml because lemmy.zip is now blocked in the uk and i want a new username. Whenever i try to make a new account i get ‘user_already_exists’ even when i use an email address that i haven’t tried before. I also tried the hello@lemmy.zip email but no reply. Who can i contact to get my account?

‘user_already_exists’ sounds like maybe the username is already in use, not the email address. Try to visit lemmy.ml/u/(the username you’re trying to use) to confirm if a profile by that name already exists on that server.

i didn’t enter an email and they let me in just fine :)

most likely, there’s an option for it in the settings
changing display name doesn’t work at least for me so i’m not 100% sure if all the settings in the menu are enabled
