  • Tbh I don’t think humanity was ready for social media. In the past, complete and utter fuckwits would be shamed into silence. Now, they’re all connected to each other, reinforcing their shitty hot takes until they reach a critical mass; attracting other morons like a black hole of idiocy.

Forget technological singularity, we’re rapidly approach a singularity of stupidity. Idiocracy was supposed to be a comedy, not a how-to manual for fucks sake!

I get that they have to protect their IP, but $14m is insane. Feels like the judge threw the book, switch, 3DS and every other console they could find at him. Does he have no right of appeal against the sentence?

When Bowser was first sentenced, Nintendo’s lawyer Ajay Singh said in a court transcript (via Axios) that the company wanted to “send a message” to other Switch hackers.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought sentencing was supposed to reflect the severity of the crime and make fair restitution? It sounds as if this sentence / restitution was massively inflated to create a deterrant, to benefit a private business. Huge fail from Nintendo imo that only makes me want to never buy one of their games or consoles again.

  • That’s amazing, thanks for sharing your fail as I feel slightly less dumb now.

One of the best I’ve seen… was working on a track with a one of my writing partners, he’s messaging his gf who’s asking where his washing machine powder is, he replies, but the response makes him sigh deeply. Asked him what’s wrong, he shows me the message, it’s from his gf and says “babe… Do you realise you’re washing your clothes with dishwasher tablets?” 😂

  • Hahaha. Reminds me of one of my own similar fails.

I bought this mop… I’m tallish at 6’. For at least a year I used this mop, cursing it everytime for being short. “What is this? A mop for dwarves?!” literally gave myself a bad back using it.

Until one day, something clicked, and I noticed I could extend it. Fuck my life.

I browse lemmy a lot on mobile. When I first looked into lemmy mobile clients, they were read only.

This post inspired me to get Sync 4 Lemmy, now I’ll be commenting much more (careful what you wish for haha as I’m sure I will have opinions some don’t agree with, but hopefully can always debate rationally)

  • Do you notice the difference between our systems? Yours is AMD cpu / AMD gpu, mine is intel cpu / nvidia gpu. We know AMD worked with BGS to some extent to make sure Starfield was well-optimised for their gear. I had a bit of a paranoid moment during my struggles to get it running that BGS had deliberately not optimised the game for non-AMD components and this info does not assuage my paranoia haha.

  • The nature of PCs I guess. I ran it on an i9 12900k, 2070s GPU, 48gb ram, m2 SSD, xbox gamepass and had no end of troubles. Even once I got it running, a majority of quests (inc main quests) were bugged to the point I had to use console commands to get past the bugs.

I’m by far not the only one. People were crashing on console! That’s insane. We now pay to be bugtesters.

It took me a whole week of mucking about and bugtesting just to get the game to run without crashing every couple of minutes. It’s bizarre to me how attached some people seem to be to the idea that the game is up to the standard we expected (not saying you are, but just look at some of the comments that have been downvoted)

  • It’s absolutely insane how many things need turning off to gain some modicum of privacy with win10, I refuse to upgrade but imagine it’s worse in win11.

Totally understand the love for Linux. If my audio interface & DAW were compatible I would investigated switching way back. There are other interfaces which appear to be compatible, and other DAWs, but I am highly proficient in the one I’ve used for ~15 years and don’t want to invest time learning a new one; and my audio interface lets me use very, very high end emulations of hardware (UAD).

Seriously considering Linux for potential future live PA work though. Stability is appealing for live stuff!

  • Sorry if you’ve had to answer this question too much… where can I find out why these instances have been added to the blocklist? Some of them I recognise from previous incidences where someone has flagged them as problematic & provided evidence but some are confusing. I’m nervous about checking them out, but I clicked on one because it sounded very innocuous.

lemmy.glasgow.social just appears to be an instance discussing social events in Glasgow, Scotland, with additional focus on hacking / computer science… how come it’s been blocked? In the modlog I can see that they had a bit of a user purge about 3 months ago with no actions taken since then. But there’s never been any deleted comments or posts.

I was out for a meal with friends just before the pandemic, waitress was a heart-stoppingly beautiful goth lady. I’d had a few drinks and blurted out “Oh my gosh, I would sacrifice my firstborn to you”… without skipping a beat she replied “Deal”. Legendary response to a drunken fool.

Once, I discovered the perfect flyswat. It just so happened that after a long battle to get a fly to leave peacefully, the closest thing to hand was an empty plastic clothes basket. You know the kind, with lots of holes through all the sides.

In frustration I grabbed the basket and swatted the fly. It made an amazing “swoosh” sound, like swinging a pipe in Streets of Rage. I can only imagine the blind panic as the fly executed its usual escape manoeuvre, only to find that the object it attempted to dodge was less of a rolled-up newspaper, and instead the swat equivalent of a star destroyer.

Finally, a strike back for team human…
