We now all live in a recursive loop.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Did y'all ever felt curious about your parent's past? If your relationship with parents isn't close, how does one get their parent's story without making the interaction awkward?
10·4 days agoNo need to apologize at all! I like to use my story to help others realize they can flee a toxic relationship anytime they want and shouldn’t feel beholden to anyone including those who “brought you into this world”. God I hate that line so much, especially when it’s followed by “…and I can take you out of it too.”
I hope you find what you’re looking for. Best of luck, friend.

10·4 days agoMy father is a bi-polar narcissist and my mother is a bizarre kind of broken because of it. I fled home at 16 yo and looked back a few times, though I wish I didn’t. The few time I had a chance to ask questions about their past, the stories always changed.
It all broke down during the pandemic when they went full blown rightwing conspiracy theorists and science deniers trying to guilt me into letting them near my (then) newborn. At one point one of their “FBI friends” told them COVID was a hoax. We don’t have FBI friends.
With all that said… fuck em. My curiosity of the past doesn’t exceed how much it distresses me to be around them. My chosen family and I are looking towards the future.
In your case I would just stick to the facts and get medical history. That’s the one thing I wish I got before calling it quits.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How Old Were You when You Learned the Word, "Fascist"?
6·7 days agoBack when the history channel had history documentaries. There was a week long block of WWII shows when I was 12(ish), like shark week but Hitler.
Yeah, I have SO many rescue animals, it’s hard to explain to normal people. Multiple dogs with all sorts of problems, a few parrots, an angry hedgehog, two cats, and my vet’s first call to foster (almost anything). They are all well taken care of and clean but there’s a… smell.
I’m also holding Balthazar, a bark scorpion, against his will for invading Pretty Kitty Pepper’s land. Balthazar is kept well and fed a steady diet of pinheads. When he eats, it looks like a dot matrix printer in reverse. That’s the one creature in the house most people freak out about the most, but they would all be wise to fear the parrots.
Pretty Kitty Pepper for reference

I’m diagnosed dyslexic which, when reading aloud, sends me into a stutter to full embarrassed apologies. When reading to myself, I’ll make it 10 pages before I realize I didn’t read shit. I’m never getting laid in your hypothetical world.
Who am I kidding? I’m not getting laid as is.
The one that was like 10m long 😆 I’m assuming that’s the album one.
I used to study in a cozy little cafe that was a row of houses turned into business. Next door was a bar that could get a bit rowdy sometimes. They had one of those jukeboxes with an app. I would load up Hotel California every chance I got. I could barely hear the music but I could hear the patrons groan every 30 minutes or so. One day the song option wasn’t there, so I switched to American Pie by Don McLean.
I’m sure they hated me.
Core memory unlocked. We had the yellow/orange ones in our back yard. I don’t know who showed me or why, but I knew how to squeeze that one drop of honey. Showed my daughters by making the dragon “talk” and from that day on, I never saw a flowering blossoms ever again.

Programmer Humor@lemmy.ml•POV: The highest paid engineer at your company gets fired
9·1 month agoI know you didn’t ask and this is just anecdotal evidence from my employer, but the people who tried to reverse engineer this guys work were given strict deadlines they never met. Pen testers to straight up turnaround kings, this guy buried them all and had to be bought out. It was cheaper to buy him out than it was to pursue the next step. Stay safe my friend, stay valuable.

21·1 month agoWe recently had to buy out a director that kept all the technical knowledge to themselves for the last 20 years. They were almost always available 24x7 for outage calls and it became clear his teams didn’t know shit about anything, especially when said director was sick or on vacation. He was labeled a danger to the infrastructure and settled for a multimillion dollar buyout with a full knowledge transfer. Retirement age, fat 401k, company stock and other investments… yeah, he took that deal immediately, like no hesitation.

43·1 month agoWhile I agree with the message this statue is trying to convey, that’s a horrible Trump. He’s missing a hundred lbs, a vagina neck, lifts, tiny hands, and a fat tie.

With the names that have already been released, the ringleader dead under mysterious circumstances, and lack of whistleblower protections… I’m assuming no one is stupid enough to leak/hack the files when there are legal paths to release the information (ie FOIA). Groups you cited like Anonymous act when no one else can or will.
